DAY 1. Drive from Arusha to Machame Gate (1634 m/5,363 ft) then climb to Machame camp. (2834m/9,300 ft)

This is the first day in the program of 7 Days Machame route, after registration the climb bigins. Today is a nice easy climb through the tropical beautiful and attractive rain forest. As you pass through the rainforest, you are likely to spot colobus monkeys and wild bird’s .Dinner and Overnight at Machame camp.

After the breakfast, we start our walk leaving machame camp. We continue climbing, traversing a valley and going up a rocky ridge, quite steep and covered in heath. Then we go round west, to the river’s gorge. We end the day at the Shira Camp, where we have dinner and over night.

Today you start adapt the enviroment; our bodies are getting prepared for the summit day. It’s an intense day and you may feel the altitude symptoms. We ascend until Lava Tower (4600m), where we take lunch and rest. Then we go down to Barranco campsite, where is situated in a beautiful valley under the Breach, here we will have a Dinner and overnight.

Today we begin with a fun scramble, quite short and  climbing up through the edge of great Barranco Wall. Then we cross over the steep trail to Karange Valley (3930 m), situated under the icefalls of Kersten, Heim and Decken Glaciers. We spend the dinner and overnight at the Karanga camp.

Today we Leave the Karanga camp behind, climbing up to the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail for descent. Then we continue until the Barafu Hut. This marks the completion of the Southern Circuit. From here there are views of the top from different angles. We will camp, rest and enjoy some dinner and overnight. From here we can clearly see the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

You will start climbing early just after midnight, as the walk today will take 10 – 14 + hours. The 1,100-meter (3,600) ascent in just over 3 km (1.86 miles) will take us about 6-8 hours, as you try to reach the summit to watch the sunrise over the Great Rift Valley. After watching the sunrise and taking enough pictures, you then start downhill the mountain to below the tree line.
Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.

We will have a short three hour going down to the Mweka Park Gate where you receive the summit certificate. At lower altitudes it may be muddy and wet. Gaiters and trekking poles will be helpful. It’s convenient to have t-shirts and shorts for this part, but keep your rain gear and warmer clothes at hand.
